The Nutmeg Open was the first-ever weightlifting competition for Roberta, Sam, and Katie — all three athletes had an excellent showing! Roberta had a perfect meet and went 6 for 6, while medaling in her age group. Sam also made all six of her lifts, taking third in the 69kg class. Kate made strong snatch attempts and ended up taking second place in the 75kg class.

Laura returned to the platform and finished with a 48kg snatch and a 75kg clean and jerk — what an impressive fight by Laura to save this lift!

Lauren made a sound snatch attempt at 42kg and a competition record clean and jerk attempt at 54kg, but lost it due to majority decision. However, she ended the day on top by placing second in the 48kg class and winning Best Master’s Lifter for her age group.

The Men’s Team followed suit with a record-breaking day of competition.

Azeem snatched his competition best at 75kg AND made his clean and jerk record at 95kg. Z placed first in the 69kg class and won best junior lifter.

Edgar had a great day going six for six lifts and made some major competition records.

Ross smoked all three of his snatch attempts and took first place overall in his age group.

Nando had a well deserved celebration after setting a new personal best in the clean and jerk at 100kg.

After missing his snatch opener due to a misload and overlook by the judges, Christian smoked his next two attempts and finished with a 90kg snatch. He then went on to make a 115kg clean and jerk.

On his first day of competition, John showed us all why he’s The Champ and ended the day with first place in his Master’s Division!

Richard had a monster day of lifting. As the oldest competitor in his weightclass, he went 91kg/109kg and ended up with first place in the 77kg class. He finished the day with a lifetime total of 200kg, first place in his age group, and Best Overall Masters Lifter.

To top it all off, the NYWA Men won the Best Team Award!
